The Ayatollahs in Iran have now issued a fatwa threatening to kill the President of the United States. One part of the letter reads: “The Muslim public must respond in a way that makes them deeply regret their words and actions. And if anyone succeeds in striking them or causing harm, they will be rewarded by God as a true mujahid, both in this world and the hereafter, Inshallah.” Sound familiar? Last time a fatwa like this was issued, it was by Khomeini against Salman Rushdie for writing a book. He’s been hunted by Islamists ever since for allegedly disrespecting the Prophet. But make no mistake: Trump did not insult any prophet. Ali Khamenei is a Shia cleric not the leader of the Muslim world. The majority of Muslims are Sunnis, and many don’t even recognize Shia as true Muslims. So if this fatwa is carried out, it won’t be by “Muslims”. It will be by Khamenei’s Shia loyalists
