In December 2022 Nancy Mace said about TikTok: "The Chinese are using it to spy on Americans. We should ban it from all government devices. That should be step one." Mace now: "I've been against this from the very beginning before anyone else weighed in ... It's not the role of government to ban apps from the App Store. Nowhere in our Constitution does it say that." She is right that the founders didn't think to put app store rules in the Constitution. They did though explicitly give Congress the ability to regulate commerce with foreign nations. Nancy Mace doesn't think it's safe to have TikTok on government devices while CCP controls it, but she's fine with the CCP spying on your kids. At least that's her position now. The point of believing in limited government is that there are some things where government clearly has a role. Protecting American data from a foreign adversary is exactly something that is in the scope of a responsible limited government.
