1) US defense department prohibitions have nothing to do with Israel. In fact, section 6.4.3 specifically outlines that specific prohibitions do not mean the use of such weapons is prohibited under IL. The distinction that would make it such is if the weapon was inherently indiscriminate. That’s the opposite of the pager attack, which was targeted only at pagers distributed by a terror group to their operatives. 2) The very same document (6.12.5) allows for the use of booby traps if they are targeted at combatants and not indiscriminate and not targeted against the civilian population. As was the case here. 3) You get upset at Israel when they strike terrorists with extensive collateral civilian damage. Then you also get upset at Israel when they strike terrorists with very limited collateral damage (as in this case). Taking out thousands of terrorists and their comms among a civilian population would use mean thousands of dead civilians. Yet you are still just as upset. Meanwhile, you have no concerns for the daily Hezbollah rockets launched indiscriminately at civilians. Which can only lead to the conclusion that you do not believe they have a right to strike terrorists at all and should just allow a daily barrage of indiscriminate rockets aimed at civilians.

Yesterday my House office was tagged with blood-splattered signs accusing me of supporting terrorism after I questioned the pager operation, which clearly runs counter to US policy. They must live under a rock to not know I don’t take well to bullies. Per US Dept of Defense:

Excerpt from US Department of Defense manual:

Booby-Traps and Other Devices in the Form of Apparently Harmless
Portable Objects Specifically Designed to Explode. It is prohibited in all circumstances to use booby-traps or other devices in the form of apparently harmless portable objects that are specifically designed and constructed to contain explosive material. This prohibition relates to booby-traps manufactured to resemble items, such as watches, personal audio players, cameras, toys, and the like. This prohibition is intended to prevent the production of large quantities of dangerous objects that can be scattered around and are likely to be attractive to civilians,
especially children.
