People keep getting confused about what drives escalation in a conflict. Especially in the Middle East. it's the perception of weakness that causes miscalculation and escalation. The idea that Hezbollah will be eager for a ground war after losing most of its leadership and entire comms networks is nonsense. They are humiliated and will feel the need to appear to respond, but they are far more likely to seek an off-ramp now than they were 2 weeks ago. Now a ground war may still happen if the off-ramp doesn't present itself because Israel cannot continue to accept daily rocket fire, but it's not because Hezbollah will now be eager to pursue it. They will now want years to rebuild. Many people in the West, including in this administration, simply don't get that the constant attempts to appease terrorists only encourage them to pursue their strategies further. it doesn't work.
