We've reached the point where we have a new embarrassing tantrum from left-wing activists in various newsrooms every few months whenever their organizations even remotely signal they may do something inconsistent with maintaining an ideological bubble. It's what happened when the New York Times allowed Tom Cotton write an op-ed, when Politico allowed Ben Shapiro to guest write Morning Playbook, and when NBC News hired Ronna McDaniel. It will keep happening because these organizations inevitably end up trying to appease the activists and the result is that most people perceive them as controlled by such activism.

There has been a well-supported perception that the WaPo newsroom is run by activists who prioritize their biases over their role as journalists. mot only partisan biases, but also ideological. A good way to fight that perception is obviously for a bunch of people who work there and the union that represents them to throw a tantrum over the publication not openly endorsing one candidate. An endorsement that btw is unlikely to sway even one voter.
