I think one thing people don’t get is that it’s not even as much about the specific issue but the reaction to disagreement that has alienated people. Had a conversation with a liberal friend who has slowly been moving to the right over the last few election cycles and the biggest thing he cited was the intolerance of the left. The fact that someone can be deemed hateful, bigoted, racist, a fascist etc. for expressing mainstream views or support for certain candidates has led to a major blowback. The constant attempts to silence disagreement don’t work anymore. The emphasis on racial or gender diversity, while enforcing a complete rejection of intellectual or ideological diversity is backfiring. But progressives keep doubling down so it will be up to Democrats to distance themselves from it or go down with the ship.

Seth Moulton said the most sensible, normal thing and there’s a “Neighbors Against Hate” rally to burn the witch in Salem. But sure, it’s us who have made a big ol’ deal about this issue.
