Syria is such a mess that even people who actually pay attention to this stuff can’t keep track of all the militant groups and who they are backing at any particular moment. What is definitely true is that it’s mostly a rooting for injuries situation and it’s clear that the weakening of Hezbollah and the IRGC due to their losses in the war with Israel played a role in the timing of the current offensive.
