Any city or state that ignores ICE detainer orders should have their federal funding cut off until they can prove they will comply with the law. They are actively putting people beyond just their jurisdictions in danger by ignoring these detainers.

NEW: A Guatemalan illegal alien charged with sexually assaulting a child in Rhode Island has been arrested by ICE’s Boston office after ICE says he was released from local custody with their detainer request to hold him ignored by the Rhode Island Department Of Corrections. ICE arrested him in a parking lot in Cranston, RI. ICE statement: “We use immigration detainers as public safety tools,” said ICE Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “We asked the Rhode Island Department of Corrections to hold Meletz Guarcas so we could take him into custody in their facility, but he was released to home confinement. Unfortunately, the Department of Corrections doesn’t turn over home confinement releases, so a team of our officers were forced to arrest him in a public parking lot in Cranston, rather than a controlled environment in a custodial setting.” ICE release: http://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ero-boston-arrests-guatemalan-national-accused-sexually-abusing-child
