Last week aid trucks reached Khartoum for the first time since the war in Sudan began in April 2023. Khartoum alone has a population over 3X that of Gaza. Israel has let an average of ~200 aid trucks into Gaza each weekday during the war. According to the IPC, almost 700K people in Sudan are currently in phase 5. Meaning they are facing an immediate famine and actively dying. In Sudan, more people (tens of thousands) are dying from disease and hunger than in the actual fighting. In Gaza, the IPC recognizes widespread food insecurity and has warned about the possibility of stage 5 for northern Gaza (65-75k residents) but the areas are still in stage 4. There are no protests, no international outrage, and little coverage of the former. The latter is the primary basis for an accusation of genocide. The point here isn't to diminish the real issue of food insecurity in Gaza (which is overwhelmingly the result of distribution issues, NOT a lack of aid entering Gaza which undermines the entire premise of the intent arguments), but to point out both the skewed focus and dishonest framing that regularly occurs on these topics.
