The investigation is good, but it should be clear that UNRWA’s mission from the start was to maintain Palestinian refugee status and perpetuate the conflict. That’s the entire problem and why the organization must be defunded. Every other refugee group has aimed to resettle refugees and bring about stability. UNRWA has specifically tried to do the opposite. A lot of people don’t understand this. Ex: If you’re one of the thousands of Jewish people who fled political persecution in Egypt, you were considered a refugee when you first left. However, if you moved to Israel and got citizenship, you lost your refugee status. Your kids and grandkids born in Israel are obviously no longer considered refugees by any law or UN group. However, according to the UNRWA, if a Palestinian fled the war in 48, moved to Egypt, and became a citizen, they are still considered a refugee. Even more absurd, their kids and grandkids born in Egypt are also considered refugees. A millionaire like Bella Hadid, who has never lived in the Middle East, is considered a refugee under the UNRWA definition and eligible for benefits. Why this unique definition for exclusively one group of people? Because the point of the group is to ensure no end to the conflict that legitimizes the existence of Israel. The group is set up in a way to ensure that Palestinians can never move on anywhere else. That’s why it isn’t a surprise that the group teaches hate, coordinates with terrorists, and undermines peace. They are a central cog in perpetuating the conflict. Any potential for peace must depend on that group being defunded/removed. The funds can be redirected to a group that treats Palestinians refugees like every other refugee group in the world with the goal of creating stability.
