There is a complete disconnect between the rhetoric of the WH and other Republicans/many defenders. The WH is essentially saying tariffs are good and the goal is to just reduce foreign trade. Republicans, and defenders of the admin, are portraying it as just a negotiation tactic to lower trade barriers. It can't be both. But the latter view is undermined by the fact that the Trump admin is imposing double digit tariffs on countries with 0 or very small tariffs on American goods. So what are those countries negotiating?
