A little bit before 2020, progressives launched a widespread and well-funded (one notable funder) effort to elect prosecutors/DAs in blue cities that do not believe in pursuing prison for criminals. They were very successful as those local races rarely got that much attention. Then those prosecutors implemented those promised reforms and it was immediately a disaster. Crime went up in almost every jurisdiction this was tried. Victims of criminal activity rarely got justice. Many of the most prominent officials in this movement soon faced recalls or were removed from office. A few still remain, but it is widely recognized that the movement was a failure and did enormous damage. Yet the people who backed it didn’t learn any lessons. Not sure the voters who were fooled into these excitements did either. The outcomes were completely predictable. The same is true of places like Chicago and NYC electing far-left activists as executives. The outcomes are predictable, but the damage will take a long time to undo.
