Let me explain why it’s not a meh story: Mamdani and the people defending him explicitly support racial preferences as part of an admissions process for colleges. He also supports getting rid of objective testing measures for specialized schools in NYC because progressives think those tests currently result in too many Asian students getting in. They want to structure the entire education system around admissions standards that aim for prioritizing racial diversity over merit/ability. Their justification for this is that they think racial minorities have structural disadvantages that don’t allow them to fairly compete. Yet here the same guy tried to use the system he and his supporters advocate for to get an admissions edge. That’s despite him clearly not being part of the disadvantaged race he was claiming and actually coming from an extremely privileged background. It speaks to both his character and the issue with the system he openly advocates for… While at the same time showing his supporters don’t mind that system being cheated at the expense of the racial minority students they claim to advocate on behalf.
