I think there’s an important part of this story where Sam founds OpenAI because they don’t trust Google to be safe because they’ll succumb to the inherent pressures of capitalism, then himself succumbs to the inherent pressures of capitalism, leading to Dario splitting off to found Anthropic, which then succumbs to the inherent pressures of capitalism in turn… And I don’t think that telling that story: 1) makes any of the people involved look particularly good 2) negates the sincerity of the beliefs about the dangers 3) suggests the right approach is self-regulation by corporations
