I'm watching Night 2 of the strangest pretend “convention” ever. No one is being nominated. No platform is being adopted. There’s no actual party business. But the state lollipop signs are on the floor. It’s being held in deep-red Texas, where yes, a Republican Senate candidate may actually lose! Speaker after speaker keeps coming out to lavish praise on Donald Trump, as if he is the nominee. And Trump is telling people to pretend he is on the ballot. Everyone is playing along, giving speeches to gloss Trump up like he is. It's fantasy land set to the bizarro soundtrack of golden Trump oldies.
