Been reading up on the Ukrainian nationalist movement and man..it is not totally savory. Here in Taiwan I’m especially concerned if the internecine clashes between anti and pro-Euromaidan movement might manifest itself too, eventually. Horrible. Especially the fire in Odesa that killed 50 ppl after the two sides threw Molotov cocktails at each other. Nothing like that in Taiwan yet. In the video, the pro-independence influencer Ba Jiong only shouts and shoves a man with pro-unificationist beliefs. Note the approving quote tweet: “if every Taiwanese can be as direct in confronting commie-licking idiots, then the pan-blue and pan-white animals will have nowhere to hide. Of course, then commie-licking blue white supporters will no longer dare bully Taiwanese. Don’t ask me if I dare! I’ve done it more than once. Fuck you who said “you Chinese?” Your Uncle Here is a Taiwanese. And even my ancestors were not so weak and pathetic to be Chinese. Excuse me…” I don’t think this stuff is visible to the international audience, but Taiwanese nationalism can be truly insane. And aggressive. There is an unpleasant possibility of Martial Law 2: Pan-green Bugaloo. Lai said he is cracking down on “united front thought” and reinstating military courts. In a way it makes sense. To harden society and make sure Taiwan will fight like the Ukrainians, first you have to root out dissent. But at that point, what are we even fighting for?
