FRESH TAIPOLOGY: There's a huge problem with the way defense of Taiwan is being talked about. Nobody seems to mention the fact that the people first in line for the defense of Taiwanese independence don't actually believe in Taiwanese independence. That's probably a flippant way of putting it. But there is a strong disconnect between chickenhawk politicians like Joseph Wu and Puma Shen performatively talking tough on how surrender is never an option and waving airsoft guns around and the actual military...still a very pro-KMT institution with rank and file mostly filled from pro-KMT military families. There are historical reason for the antipathy between the military and the DPP and they can't be solved by parachuting civilian leaders on top of military institutions.
