CAA understands that @MetPoliceUK has lifted restrictions on the notorious protests on Friday nights in Swiss Cottage as the Jewish community prepares to observe the Sabbath. If these reports are accurate, then the decision represents yet another abject betrayal of Jewish Londoners by the police force whose Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, commands the confidence of just 8% of British Jews. The protests on Friday nights have been a font of antisemitic hatred, with multiple arrests, including over alleged terrorism offences. If the protest does proceed, the local Jewish community and allies will be gathering to counterprotest from 17:30 outside Swiss Cottage Library. Our Demonstration and Event Monitoring Unit will be gathering evidence on both the behaviour of protesters and the actions of police officers. Our Antisemitism Barometer polling, conducted by YouGov, shows that 59% of British adults avoid areas with such protests. It is time that the Government and the Met took action to stop these protests, which are rife with extremism and criminality.
