A better question is, “Why can’t anti-Israel demonstrators help make comparisons to the Holocaust?” Some six million Jewish men, women and children were murdered in the Holocaust, representing around one third of the world’s Jewish population. 80 years later, the Jewish population has still not fully recovered. According to the International (IHRA) Definition of Antisemitism, “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis” is an example of antisemitism. Is it any wonder that less than half of British Jews (43%) feel welcome in the UK? These demonstrations have become brazen hotbeds of extremism and hostility, enabled by the authorities. Once, these warped comparisons would be whispered in shame. Now, they’re printed on signs and paraded through central London. This sort of rhetoric has no place on our streets.
