Leaving aside the moral wisdom of pausing Meals on Wheels grants, it's political suicide. Meals on Wheels is a lifeline for seniors everywhere. If these programs have to shut down or cut back, the blowback will be immediate and deafening. And this, my children, is the problem with this kind of "bold" action--in politics, when you make an omelette, you have to be damn careful about whose eggs you're breaking.

Meals on Wheels America spox on OMB pause: "the uncertainty right now is creating chaos for local Meals on Wheels providers not knowing whether they should be serving meals today. Which unfortunately means seniors will panic not knowing where their next meals will come from."
