Conservatives are attributing this to wokeness but I doubt that's the problem; it seems more likely the movie is just not very good. What's interesting is how audiences know that in advance. It reminds me of the William Goldman story about PR people waiting in the lobby of a movie theater to see how a big-budget movie opened. Only handful of people showed up. "Ashen and reeling," he says, one of the flacks turned to him and whispered "How do they know?" How do audiences know they will hate a well-advertised movie they haven't seen? But somehow they do.
