One thing that makes partisan politics so bad right now is that everyone has eidetic recall of every crazy, stupid, partisan thing the other side has done, and has either forgotten or never knew about the equally crazy, stupid, partisan stuff their own side got up to. Which of course makes it hard to explain the other side’s behavior except as some combination of malevolence or stupidity.
