Last night in Calgary, someone shouted at Canada’s Prime Minister: “There’s genocide happening in Palestine right now.” Mark Carney responded: “I’m aware. That’s why we have an arms embargo.” Let’s be clear: there is no genocide. There is a war—one started by Hamas when it launched a barbaric attack on October 7, and prolonged by Hamas as it embeds itself among civilians and refuses to release hostages. That the man who wants to lead Canada can’t—or won’t—tell the difference between Hamas, a terrorist group that invaded Israel to murder, rape, and kidnap, and Israel, which is fighting to return its hostages and prevent another massacre, is both shameful and dangerous.
