If Dems genuinely think there is a viable path to stopping major parts of what Trump is doing through a shutdown standoff, it might make sense. If the goal is to "focus attention" or something, they're getting that already and it's working so it doesn't make much sense.

This is getting to be a reasonably fast decline. We launched last week, and Trump's approval was +0.5, now it's -1.7.
