you're mistaking economic arguments for technological ones and falling for the hype. what folks like anthropic want is for frontier model progress to stop so they can stop spending money to stay ahead in an arms race and start making money as a regulated oligopoly that no longer has to innovate. to get this, they are trotting out a cavalcade of bugbears to make you fear innovation. everyhting about this is a lie. so too is china because they want to take the lead. they also lie. the reality is simple: if real AGI is coming, this will not stop it, it will just shift it offshore and underground. if it's not, this is just a way to profiteer by limiting competition. which one sounds like a valid reason to break a market? this genie is out of the bottle. it's not going back in. (or maybe i just need a few more iterations to nail the purrminator-2000)
