Germany has formally accused Russia of responsibility for the attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport on August 4. In response, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul announced that the Russian Consulate General in Bonn will be closed and the agreement governing the Russian House in Berlin will be terminated, while the Russian ambassador has also been summoned. Germany will also tighten entry controls on Russian citizens and push for stronger EU sanctions. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said police investigations and intelligence findings led the government to conclude that Russia was responsible for the attempted attack.

Der Spiegel reports that Germany plans to expel more Russian diplomats over an alleged Russian intelligence role in the alleged attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport last month. Berlin has also discussed closing Russia’s last remaining consulate-general in Bonn and potentially shutting the Russian House in Berlin.
