Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that German investigators believe they have identified two suspects in the alleged attempted drone attack on a Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport last month. One is described as a Russian-born Latvian citizen who allegedly has “connections to Russian intelligence” and the second is a Belarusian man who also holds a Russian passport. Investigators reportedly identified him through DNA found on one of the drones, inside a can containing explosives and on an antenna placed near the airport. SZ says investigators believe the first man acted as the “logistician and instructor” for the planned attack, although German authorities remain sceptical that either suspect can be apprehended.

The Berliner Zeitung writes that the German government has so far presented no concrete evidence linking Russia to the Leipzig drone incident, despite publicly pointing the finger at Moscow. The paper says Berlin is relying on circumstantial indications while declining to disclose the underlying evidence. It also notes that previous German claims about Russian involvement in drone incidents at European airports later proved unsubstantiated.
