Look, I am unapologetically 1000% pro trans. But y’all are living in a dream if you don’t think this Olympic controversy is a political problem for trans people. You can’t just do this smug thing where you, “Durka durr. She’s not trans. I can ignore.” Politics doesn’t work that way. This situation was created by a very loose, incoherent rules around trans athletes and intersex people. To be frank, they’re trying to please everyone and have created a shitty, non-functioning policy that is an optics nightmare for trans people. The first step is people serious about trans public policy publicly stating we should cede this fight, and focus on more important ones - like gender affirming healthcare access. I have done that, and I invite you to do it as well.
