Yes, @jonathanchait is correct. Moderating our position on trans rights isn’t abandoning trans people. It’s actually helping actual trans people. Supporting insane public policy that only pleases the lunatic fringe doesn’t make people accept us. It makes them hate us and makes our acceptance harder. Trans people need access to health care, employment, housing and the ability to participate in public life.
