I agree. Parental rights are important. That’s why this project to take them away for the parents of trans children is so concerning. They know their child the best, they should be able to decide the health care with a doctor. We are clearly overmedicalizing many of these children, particularly the girls. But there are some kids broken by gender dysphoria, and their parents see firsthand the improvement when you let them be themselves. Parental rights matter for everyone.

Parents, you need to understand that many child-serving institutions no longer view you as THE authority in your child’s life. Example: Two years ago I took my 7-year-old daughter to the ER to rule out appendicitis where she was seen by a male doctor (who was wearing a he/him pronoun button). Shortly after walking into our room, the doctor asked my 7-year-old if there was anything she needed to tell him without me in the room. He assumed that he had the authority to ask me to leave my little girl alone, WHO WAS SEVEN, in an examination room with him. (There wasn’t a chance I’d allow that) I remember feeling shocked by his words. Shocked by his attitude. Shocked he was so brazen as to ask I leave my sweet girl alone with him, a male stranger. Parents remember: you are the protector, provider and authority in your child’s life. Don’t ever away your parental rights.
