Trans women are not the same as biological women. Something I’ve been struggling with - as a feminist, I can see very clearly that a lot of stereotypical female behaviors are a trap for many women. But, it’s simply undeniable that trans women that adhere to gender stereotypes closely tend to do better. We tend to be happier, have more normal lives and more financially successful. And think the answer is, we’re not the same thing. Our struggles are not the same. Biological women do not struggle with wanting to be women - and they don’t have to do anything to be accepted as women. We do. I entirely support the feminist project of deconstructing gender roles. But I don’t think it’s fair to force trans women to be frontline soldiers of that political project. I think it makes us unhappy and keeps us trapped in lives of men. To escape this deeply cancerous culture of bad trans politics, trans women need more structure and more direction. I think it’s okay if that doesn’t look like deconstructed gender roles.
