There are some people who, in good faith, do not support gender transition for minors. But this Trump EO banning teachers from respecting social transition, without medication, gives away the game. It’s not about an assessment of the risks and benefits of HRT in minors. They would prefer using the force of law to eliminate trans people from public life. When you do this you are permanently teaching a child that what they are is shameful. The shame I felt as a child and teenager sent my life wildly off course, as it did many trans women. It led to maladaptive behaviors that took decades to unwind. I wish people could see the damage they are doing. I’ve barely been sleeping this week, and neither has any sister I know. It’s very hard to see the open hatred my country has for me. I didn’t choose to be born this way, I did choose to live and not die of suicide - which I absolutely would have done. Boys that desperately want to be girls have always existed, and there’s no policy you can pass to change this.
