Here’s a very concrete policy change that could be easily made that would radically help trans people. Stop all insurance payments for any treatment for transsexuals if they have not undergone the old school steps to ensure they are actually transsexual. ✅ Extensive therapy ✅ formal letter written by clinician ✅ which is then scrutinized by a doctor who checks for comorbidities ✅ a period of time follows to make sure you can actually function in your social role with a job or school before vaginoplasty ✅ two additional letters must be written, one by a psychiatrist to check for extreme mental health issues. This would help make sure people are psychologically stable enough to be transitioning. It would help make sure they’re actually transsexual and not transvestites or non-binary with unrealistic expectations. Some portion of people will do hormones online, but this is much harder for female to male transsexuals because testosterone is such a controlled substance. The most radical changes like facial feminization surgery and vaginoplasty will be off the table. I don’t know why we decided that non-trans people getting transsexual healthcare was a good outcome, but it’s not. We don’t need MORE people getting trans healthcare we need THE RIGHT people getting trans healthcare.
