This is what I genuinely think. I think there are plenty of writers, scientists and public policy people who were disturbed by the anti-scientific version of trans activism that treated women like an enemy to be conquered and lied to parents about the efficacy of minors transitioning. But I think they’re seeing the ugly bigotry of the other side now and it’s not something they are comfortable standing with. They don’t want to maliciously call us men, scream about fake vaginas or bar us from public life. If we give the public a moderate path on trans issues that stops lying about science, compromises over women’s spaces like sports and gives thoughtful public policy recommendations, they will enthusiastically stand with us. The American people dislike bigots. We reject it over and over throughout our history.
