The reason I talk about our relationship with Israel so often is because this is exactly the point. It’s considered impolite to say in American discourse, but unchecked immigration has changed the character of Europe. Illiberal, theocratic ideologies have entered Western democracies - not always through terrorism, but through slow erosion of liberal norms. Calls to destroy Israel are often the surface. The deeper project is dismantling the West. You can see the consequences: rising antisemitism, parallel societies, democratic backsliding. It’s made countries like Germany and Sweden less free, less safe - and it’s fueling the far right’s return across the continent. If you care about liberalism, you have to care about this issue. Democrats rightly talk about threats to democracy - January 6th, election denialism, authoritarian drift. But if democracy matters, then we can’t ignore all of its enemies. A broken immigration policy that invites in ideologies hostile to liberal democracy is a national security risk. It is a threat to democracy. And Israel’s fate is a mirror of our own. https://bird.makeup/@heskelbalas/1906678901243355575
