Why are so many trans women fans of Hamas? Let me give you some context. Twenty years ago when I transitioned literally no one would've advocated that trans women have the right to go into locker rooms pre-vaginoplasty and show their penises to women and little girls. Literally no one. Today I can't even say, "That policy is nuts" without bracing for harassment from my own community. Unfortunately, extremist thinking has taken over the trans movement. How does that translate into support for Hamas? The community is captured by extremist policy framing. the culture is not really about pursuing policy goals, like access to FFS. It's about staking moralistic positions and daring anyone to disagree. I think we were uniquely vulnerable to this Free Palestine propaganda. First of all, conservatives tend to dismiss this, but we are highly traumatized from our early life experiences. Secondly, anti-Americanism has become baked into the trans zeitgeist. Rather than being thankful for the democracy that has given us the best healthcare in the entire history of civilization, we seek to tear our own country down, thinking it will lead to a utopia. In our defense, our own government is trying to push us out of public life at the moment in ways that only push trans people towards the fringe. Thirdly, Islamist political actors have spent a decade in the progressive movement framing Israelis as oppressors. I didn't pay attention to it, but they hit critical mass and now it's just something everyone believes. My fourth point is mean but it's true. Most progressives are too lazy to fact check and just get their information from memes on social media. I know that's a harsh assessment but it's the most honest I've got.

@BriannaWu @mdubowitz Serious question Why are so many transgender people at the forefront defending Hamas — a movement which wants them dead ?
