1) Israel did accept the partition plan. It was not implemented because the Arabs invaded. 2) Britain did have sovereign power over the land as it was ceded by Turkey under the treaties of Sèvres and Lausanne. 3) When the British left, the entirety of the remaining mandate passed to Israel under the customary international law principle of Uti possidetis juris.
