In other news: A man in Venice was fined €102 (USD 118) by the local police for shouting profanities in public. In Italy, swearing against God is illegal and subject to a fine – it used to be a criminal offence, but was decriminalised in 1999. Interestingly, the police officers noted in their ticket that the man had insulted ‘the deities (sic) venerated by the State Religion’. There is no State Religion in Italy since 1948.
