Sayram Lake was the first place we really started hitting heavy traffic, especially inside the scenic area itself. It was still well worth it. We camped here for two nights and found a nice corner spot for the RV. This is Xinjiang’s highest and largest alpine lake — about 458

Our next stop was Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture. We only went because we saw Arnaud Bertrand post about it (he visited a few days earlier), and it was more or less on the way to Sayram Lake. It’s not a major tourist destination, but it’s a charming little place to visit.
