The road from Yining to Tangbula with a short stop at Kuerdening

Yining was a really special city. It had an extremely unique feel to it — like a mix of Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. Some of the streets with blue homes and people sitting outside felt like Cuba or somewhere else in the Caribbean. Other parts reminded me of Stabroek Market in Guyana. And then there were stretches that felt like a southern European city on the Mediterranean. It’s hard to describe, but it felt like a very special place. Also worth mentioning: we had some of the best pizza we’ve ever eaten at Etna Pizza. It’s run by a Uyghur woman who learned pizza-making at a five-star hotel in Guangzhou, then came back home and opened her own place. This is the second time we've found spectacular pizza in Xinjiang.
