A true moral principle doesn’t excuse what it limits based on setting. “Application” doesn’t create new morality, it either upholds the principle or it betrays it. If intentionally killing innocents is wrong, no battlefield or bureaucracy changes that. We should measure ourselves not by how well we rationalize war, but by whether we still recognize evil even when it serves our ends. Even when war is just, it should be regarded solemnly, as a necessary breach of moral principle undertaken for a practical end.

You are not consistent. You said: “You assert that war and crime are separate moral universes because the system says so but never explain why killing innocents magically becomes moral because a flag is involved.” I said: “The application of morality DOES changes in civil life compared to war.” You said: “Neither Aquinas or Grotius support your claim that morality changes in war.” I did not claim that (definition vs application) and then you deflected to what is viewed as necessary killing in war.
