WIDOWS FROM THE WAR ANNOUNCE ENGAGEMENTS This past week marked 2 touching announcements: IDF reservist Dovi Kogen, 32, was killed in November 2023 while fighting Hamas terrorists in Gaza. He was married to Shaked and the father of three children. Thank God, Shaked has announced her engagement to Simi Lieberman, a father of four, whose wife passed away on Simchat Torah three years ago. Shaked wrote: “We are bringing together broken hearts. We choose life.” IDF reservist Yedidya Eliyahu, 25, was killed while fighting Hamas terrorists in Gaza in November 2023. He was married to Meitar and the father of three children (one who was born after he was killed). Thank God, Meitar announced her engagement to Baruch Tzuri Noked. Yedidya’s mother said: “I prayed that she should be able to rebuild her life at every candle lighting and whenever I prayed… We know that this is what Yedidya wanted for Meitar. Our entire family is on the way to celebrate the engagement.” Both women emphasized that this was the path that they chose but that every person who has suffered loss has to choose the path and course of action that is best for them. Both women began their engagement announcements with the words from the prophet Isaiah (52:2): “Shake off the dust, arise!” MAZAL TOV! AM YISRAEL CHAI!
