A FALLEN SOLDIER’S MESSAGE TO HIS FAMILY IDF soldier Omer Van Gelder, 22, was killed by Hamas terrorists on June 2. His family just found a note that he wrote on his telephone. The family asked that it be made public. This is what the notes says: “If we would think continuously about the situation in which we exist and the losses that we have experienced, it we would truly understand and digest the number of precious men who gave up their bodies and souls for us, we would be torn apart emotionally. On the one hand - the strong, great, and awesome mourning. And on the other hand, strong feelings of a mission - we paid such a heavy price with our lives, and, therefore their lives have to be worth more. Just surviving doesn’t mean that our living equals their sacrifice. We have to do great and worthy things. To make ourselves better people. Much better. If we waste our lives and aren’t better, we are cheapening the men who sacrificed themselves for us. If we lives in the next manner possible, that we become the best version of ourselves, perhaps we will be worthy of the great sacrifices that were made for us. If I am no longer here, I ask from all who love me - be good, the best that you can be.” Thank you Omer. We will all try to be better. In your memory and merit. May you rest in peace.
