While I profoundly disagree with many of their policies, I strongly condemn the British government’s decision to sanction Ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir. At a time when democracy is facing dire challenges worldwide, the unprecedented sanctioning of freely elected leaders of a fellow democracy is a self-inflicted blow to the democratic idea. And at a time when Israel is battling the same jihadist forces that threaten Britain and the entire West, the decision is a gift to our common enemies.
