NEWS | New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 14 state landmarks would be lit orange this evening to honor the Bibas children, claiming that they “were murdered by Hamas during their captivity in Gaza.” Uncritically echoing Israeli propaganda, she added, the boys were “brutally murdered by Hamas in an act of callous and unthinkable cruelty.” Israel’s military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, who previously made false claims about Gaza’s Al Shifa Hospital being a “Hamas command and control center,” stated that Hamas killed the children with their “bare hands,” without sharing any evidence to back that claim. Israeli authorities have repeatedly spread racist fabrications, including the now widely debunked claims of mass rapes on October 7 and 40 beheaded babies, to justify Israel’s ongoing genocide against the indigenous Palestinian population. Hamas maintains that the boys and their mother were killed in an Israeli airstrike in November 2023, and the group offered to return their bodies in 2023. However, the fugitive from international war crimes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, refused.
