Progressive William Lawrence, after winning Michigan’s 7th District Democratic primary, pledged to vote for Hakeem Jeffries as House speaker, reversing a position he held earlier during his campaign. In October, Lawrence was among a group of progressive candidates refusing to commit to Jeffries, telling Axios: “I hope to have an alternative to Jeffries to vote for.” He also said he hopes to speak with members of the Congressional Black Caucus to unite to defeat the Republican incumbent.
