⭕️ Ukraine’s repeated strikes and Russia’s “patchwork” repairs are cumulatively degrading the country’s refining system, the IEA said in its monthly report Friday, according to Bloomberg. 🔹Russia possesses roughly 6.3–6.8 million barrels per day of refining capacity, about 6% of the global total of approximately 104 million. The IEA expects Russia to process only around 4 million barrels per day over the next 18 months, roughly 30% below pre-invasion levels. 🔹Ukraine struck Russian refineries at least 22 times in August, the highest monthly total of the war, according to Bloomberg. A July 9 Oxford Institute for Energy Studies analysis found that 24 of Russia’s 34 refineries, representing 81% of national capacity, had been attacked in 2026. (Note: it does not mean 81% of the capacity was simultaneously offline.) 🔹The IEA said Ukraine is increasingly targeting complex secondary-processing units that can take 6 to 8 months to replace, while sanctions make replacement equipment harder to obtain. 🔹 Refineries convert crude oil into higher-value gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. On August 29, Russia extended its producer ban on diesel, marine-fuel, and gas-oil exports through September 30. Gasoline and non-producer diesel exports remain prohibited through January 31, and the jet-fuel ban runs through November. Sunday’s Ukrainian strikes targeted the Slavyansk and TANECO refineries, which have roughly 400,000 barrels per day of combined nameplate capacity. 💢🇺🇦 Ukrainian drones strike two Russian oil refineries as Trump tells Kyiv to stop “causing shortage of diesel fuel” Ukrainian drones struck two Russian oil refineries with a combined processing capacity of roughly 400,000 barrels per day overnight into Sunday: the Slavyansk refinery in Krasnodar Krai, near occupied Crimea, and the TANECO refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, roughly 1,200 kilometers from Ukrainian-held territory, according to Ukraine’s General Staff and geolocated footage. 🔸 The Slavyansk refinery, one of southern Russia's largest independent plants, processes about 5.2 million tons of crude a year and supplies fuel to the Russian military, according to Ukrainian reports. Fires were reported at both sites. 🔸 Russian officials said the Nizhnekamsk strike killed two civilians and wounded 14, after a drone hit near a parked car. 🔸 The strikes came the same weekend President Trump publicly urged Kyiv to halt its refinery campaign. "He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia," Trump said of Zelensky, "because he's causing a shortage of diesel fuel.” 🔸Russia, meanwhile, launched 453 drones at Ukraine overnight, its largest barrage in weeks, striking Odesa for a second straight night, according to Ukraine’s Armed Forces. Kyiv says its strikes on Russian energy infrastructure aim to cut the oil revenue funding the war. 🎥 Ukraine struck Russia’s Slavyansk ECO oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban, southern Russia, about 80 miles east of occupied Crimea, scoring multiple hits and setting the facility ablaze.
