🇵🇸 37 Palestinian journalists currently in Israeli detention, more than half without charge or trial The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) says 37 Palestinian journalists arrested since October 2023 remain in Israeli detention, more than half of them—19—held without charge or trial under administrative detention. Among them is Drop Site contributor Mohamed Awad, detained by the Israeli military from his home in Beitunia, near Ramallah, on August 12 and ordered held for four months without charge. 🔸 PPS said Israel is increasingly prosecuting journalists for alleged “incitement” over their work, while using “secret files” to hold others in administrative detention. 🔸 Detained journalists face isolation, starvation, denial of medical care, torture, and other mistreatment, the group reported. Journalist Bushra al-Taweel was recently transferred to solitary confinement in Ramleh Prison, amid escalating repressive measures against female Palestinian prisoners. PPS said the targeting of journalists is part of a “systematic policy aimed at erasing the truth and suppressing the Palestinian narrative.”
