Let’s put things into perspective. Lebanon was established as a Christian-majority country. It became a Muslim-majority country over time due to a combination of factors, including higher Muslim birth rates and the civil war that led to mass emigration of Christians, increasing Muslim social and political influence. That said, Lebanon enforces a sectarian power-sharing system which was adopted for the very purpose of being representative of Lebanon’s diverse communities. In the National Pact of 1943, Lebanon’s Christian and Muslim leaders jointly agreed on the following arrangement in gaining independence from France: Lebanon’s President will always be Christian Maronite. Lebanon’s Prime Minister will always be Sunni Muslim. Lebanon’s speaker of Parliament will always be Shia Muslim. So you have both a Muslim Prime Minister and Parliament speaker. That is 2 out of 3 of the power-sharing arrangement, and your representatives signed onto that. Omitting the crucial context that this arrangement was quite literally designed for fair representation, and using that omission to imply the exact opposite, is dishonest. https://bird.makeup/@omar_dddg/1859627170588655987
