After left wing media were silent about Islamist Nazis for 15 months and then exploded into vociferous uproar over Elon Musk, many concluded that people have trouble identifying evil in their own party, but no problem seeing it on the other side. Setting aside the cacophony of assessments about Musk, the reality is something much more worrisome and connects the dots on much of contemporary culture. Let’s break this down. Remember when I posted last week that 80% of Americans support Israel against Hamas? People were shocked by how many on both sides are actually against Hamas, seeming somewhat inconsistent with online narratives. So, why aren’t they speaking up? The reality is that most people do know evil when they see it. The silence is not for lack of seeing it, nor for not wanting to call out their “side” (though this is a factor). More worryingly, the problem is selective race-based condemnation for fear of being perceived as a racist. Leftists weren’t silent about calling out Islamist Nazis because they don’t think they are Nazis, they were silent because they didn’t want to be called racists. The result is disproportionate outrage over white actors and suppression of outrage over non-white actors, in turn enabling the latter to thrive and contributing to its evil. People would sooner die as a fait acompli of the evil they refuse to call out than to be perceived as a racist. Suppressing our social survival instincts is the bitter reality of the corrosive cocktail of exploiting phobic language, shame, and cancel culture that plagued our society for years. The rupture of noise by leftist media over Elon Musk but silence over Islamist Nazis, the rupture of noise by leftist feminists over Gisele Pelicot but silence over the UK rape gangs are all symptoms of the same disease: the conditioned suppression of instincts because of the cultural exploitation of shame. This conditioned suppression has become the biggest betrayal to communities who deserved more from us: Jews, Iranians, women, children, and many more. Let this be a lesson to never again allow anyone to make us feel fear for calling out evil whenever we see it, no matter what “shade” it comes in.
